Prince Harry has released an emotional video for the WellChild charity, just hours after his disgraced uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested. The Duke of Sussex appeared to be in California when he recorded the message, while the Royal Family remained in turmoil in his home country after Andrew’s arrest.

Harry issued a nationwide call for the British public to find the country’s “most courageous unsung heroes” as the search begins for the winners of the 2026 WellChild Awards, which will take place later this year. Harry, who has been patron of WellChild for 18 years, shared how much he looked forward to the annual award ceremony to celebrate children who face complex medical needs with “extraordinary joy”.

In the video posted to WellChild’s Instagram, Harry said: “Every year, one of the moments I look forward to the most is spending time with the incredible children and families that I meet through the WellChild Awards.
“These children and young people are living with complex medical needs, challenges that most of us can barely imagine. And yet time and again they meet life with positivity, courage, humour and an extraordinary joy for living.” He added: “In their smiles, their determination and their kindness, they show us what strength truly looks like.”
The annual WellChild awards shine a light on the unwavering resilience of children living with serious health challenges, as well as the tireless dedication of the families, siblings and healthcare professionals who care for them.
