The young Prince William truly appeared to possess everything one could wish for.
Beyond being the future monarch, he was attractive, bright and compassionate – so it’s scarcely surprising that numerous women pursued him.

His soulmate proved to be Catherine, a university housemate and companion, and observers believed she was an exceptionally fortunate woman.
However, when one of the now-Princess of Wales’ friends made this observation to her, she delivered a superb retort.
Throughout their university years at St Andrews, a friend mentioned to Catherine how fortunate she was to be dating Prince William.

Grinning, she simply responded: “He’s lucky to have me.”
Following a temporary separation William eventually proposed in 2010, to which Charles famously remarked: “They have been practising long enough.”
In her book The Making of a Royal Romance, royal expert Katie Nicholl claims William pledged he would never be coerced into marriage before he felt prepared.

She claims he drew lessons from his parents’ doomed relationship and was resolute he wouldn’t repeat the pattern.
She writes: “He was aware his father had been pressured into marrying Diana because she was deemed the suitable bride.
