It’s been a busy week for the Duchess of Edinburgh, who has been overseas in Kenya for a two-day visit, focusing on women’s contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

On Thursday, the blonde royal, who has just turned 61, was pictured joyfully taking part in a traditional dance in Wajir, north-east Kenya, on day two of her visit. We loved her chic new outfit, which had a definite springtime feel to it.
Sophie wore the ‘Deborah’ dressby British brand Lexy London. The floral style was etched with an enchanting bloom print, which mixed a bright turquoise, rose pink, and amber colour palette. The website said of the £245 style: “The dress offers a tailored fit over the shoulders and bust and a flared silhouette below the waist with inset pockets,” describing it as “figure-flattering” and “effortless.”

Florals for Spring
When the seasons change and spring appears, high street stores and runways embrace floral themes. As sarcastically (yet expertly) said by Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” This fun, iconic observation couldn’t be more apt.
As identified by the Instagram account Royal British Fashion, Sophie teamed the dress with her Penelope Chilvers lace-up espadrilles and a pair of Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses.
The modest fashion icon
Sophie has winning fashion credentials that are often copied by royal fans. However, the mother of two is modest when it comes to this public admiration. At a fashion event in 2018, the royal made a rare comment on her sense of style, playfully remarking: “I can’t claim that my track record in fashion has always been as good as it is today, but you know, we learn in time.”

Sophie has a famously elegant wardrobe
Three years later, during a special engagement with the British Fashion Council in 2021, she quipped: “Britain is an island – albeit a big island – and if you look at what royal women have worn over generations, they have made huge fashion statements reflected from foreign shores, and that’s what helps make our style.”
When asked whose style she most admires, she said: “Angelina Jolie – I always think she looks amazing – and also Queen Rania of Jordan always looks stunning.”
