Ferguson’s ‘Flora and Fern: Kindness along the Way’ will not be available for sale

Sarah Ferguson’s next children’s book, ‘Flora and Fern: Kindness along the Way,’ has been withdrawn from publication due to disagreements involving her ex-husband Prince Andrew, who was officially stripped of his royal titles amid the scandal.
PEOPLE has contacted New Frontier Publishing for comment. Ferguson’s team did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
New Frontier Publishing is based in London and, according to Publisher’s Marketplace, ‘Flora and Fern: Kindness along the Way’ has no US publisher.
Book signings and talks at Ferguson’s bookstore, often called Fergie, have also been canceled, according to the Daily Mail.

Flora and Fern: Kindness along the Way was supposed to be released on October 9, but has since been pushed back to November 20. The children’s book is expected to retail for around $17 and will come after Flora and Fern: Wonder in the Woods, which Ferguson will publish in October 2024 with New Frontier Publishing.

The enchanting second book in the series features beloved characters Flora and Fern as they discover kindness on the road.”
Fergie pursued a writing career (among other business ventures) after her divorce from Andrew in 1996 and has published over 50 books to date, including children’s books, memoirs and historical novels.

In a 2021 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Ferguson discussed her approach to writing for children.
“If you write for children, you have to understand your audience and you can’t tell them what to do or what to think,” Ferguson said. “You have to put yourself in the shoes of a child, and the excitement I get from being so curious and innocent like a child makes me really enjoy that.”
News of the book was dropped after former Prince Andrew announced in a shock statement on October 17 that he would no longer use his royal titles and titles because they were distracting from the work of King Charles and the rest of the royal family. King Charles initiated the formal process of stripping his brother of those titles on October 30, and the transition was made official in a Letter of Patent published on November 3.
The changes come amid increased scrutiny over Andrew’s deep ties to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died while awaiting trial in August 2019.
Andrew stepped down from his royal duties in November 2019 following a bombshell BBC interview in which he discussed his relationship with Epstein.
Then, in January 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped her second son of all his military titles and patronages, after a judge rejected his attempt to dismiss a sexual assault case brought against him by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre.
Andrew settled with Giuffre out of court for an undisclosed sum and has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Giuffre committed suicide in April this year, aged 41.
As part of the stripping of Andrew’s titles, he was also ordered to surrender his residence at Royal Lodge, the 30-room Windsor mansion where Ferguson lived with him, and Fergie will no longer use the title she was known as Duchess of York
