Prince Harry’s title has been questioned
US President Donald Trump was the punchline in Prince Harry’s jokes when he made a surprise cameo on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week.
The royal spoof-crashed the programme and appeared in a hilarious skit where he poked fun at the controversial US president.
In wake of his quips, some royal observers are very unhappy with his behaviour and what it means for the wider royal family.
So much so, Prince Harry’s title has been called into question.
Prince Harry’s title questioned after Trump skit
In the surprise skit, Prince Harry wandered on set and shared that he wished to audition to be a prince in Colbert’s Christmas movie.
Stephen Colbert was taken aback and baffled as to why Harry was after the gig.
Prince Harry cheekily explained that it is due to the love for the royals in the US.
He said: “Well, you Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?”
Colbert pushed back and insisted that he didn’t think that Americans are really that interested in royalty.
To this, Prince Harry responded with a hilarious roast of Donald Trump. He quipped: “Really?! I heard you ‘elected’ a king.”
The audience then erupted with laughter. At the mention of Trump, some members of the audience even booed.
Colbert then replied: “Fair point.”
In wake of Harry’s antics, royal commentator Tom Sykes penned in his Substack newsletter Royalist, that he feels as long as Prince Harry has the title prince, he represents the royal family.
Therefore, his actions may make Americans think that the royal family share his views.

“I think the royal family has no real choice,” Sykes stated. “Harry believes he’s free to speak his mind now that he’s no longer a working royal. I think if he were truly living as Harry Wales, private citizen, that argument would hold water. But he isn’t Harry Wales. He’s Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. And in the American imagination, he still carries the full aura of a prince — a representative of the monarchy. A global audience does not grasp that Harry isn’t still a part of the Windsor family business.
“Charles and William may be hundreds of miles away in Balmoral or Windsor, but in the American mind they are standing just offstage as Harry delivers his punchlines.”
Sykes believes that as long as Prince Harry is a prince, the American people will “simply see a British prince insulting their head of state”.
He added: “The titles must be removed, not as punishment but for clarity. Removing them draws a clear blue line between Prince Harry the royal and Harry the private citizen. It protects the monarchy from his volatility.”

Royal expert speaks out on Prince Harry latest
Royal Insider has spoken to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams and he shared what he thinks about Harry’s behaviour alongside Stephen Colbert and whether it is grounds for Harry to be stripped of his title as prince.
He said: “Prince Harry made an idiot of himself by his ill-timed appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show. It was childish and indicated that he needs some tough advice.”
Mr Fitzwilliams pointed out that Meghan Markle has been avoiding political comment recently and that Harry’s dig at Trump may be unwise, given his history with the president.
He continued: “His jibe at President Trump was certainly unwise, the issue of whether he included his drug taking on his visa, currently dormant, could always be revived.
“Even Meghan has been scrupulous in avoiding political comment recently.”
He went on to say: “Colbert called his ancestor George 111 ‘a kind of a jerk’. I would have thought that description suited Harry admirably after that ridiculous cameo on his show…”
However, Richard Fitzwilliams doesn’t think this is good enough reason for Prince Harry to become Harry Wales.

He said: “To respond by removing his title would be foolish. It has been a tough year for the monarchy as it is. Appearances like Harry’s on Colbert don’t appeal in Britain but they go down far better in the US.
“The Sussexes are viewed pretty sceptically there now, having been extremely popular after Oprah, action taken against them would lead to a feeling they were being victimised.
“Also, the Epstein files will almost certainly cause further embarrassment to the royal family. To ask for more trouble would be idiotic and there is no chance at all that the king would consider doing it.
“It would lead to an impression that the institution was really desperate. It isn’t, but it’s a politically unstable time in the polls in the UK.
“Diversions from the serious purpose of monarchy, a pivotal symbol of national unity, would be totally wrong.”
Well, that is that.
