When Kate Middleton attended the installation of the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, she came dressed in her usual elegant style and, as she often chooses to do, her jewelry was pulled from the archives and held special familial meaning.

On March 25, the Princess of Wales chose a gray cashmere Suzannah topcoat with a coordinating wide-brim Juliette Botterill hat. She styled the posh outfit with a pair of pearl cluster earrings that she originally wore to her son Prince Louis’s christening back in 2018.
Kate’s outfit also paid a subtle tribute to Prince William, who was by her side at the installation. Her coatdress was made of the Prince of Wales check, a pattern she wears often and one that honors the royal title he’s held since 2022.
Kate has reached for the statement studs numerous times since their first debut. She wore them at Wimbledon in July 2023 and at Trooping the Colour in June 2024—her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis three months prior.
On Wednesday, Dame Sarah Mullally became the first female Archbishop of Canterbury in the Church of England’s 1,400-year history. She will likely be in the office when the Prince and Princess of Wales become King William and Queen Catherine, and will more than likely play a major role in their coronation, whenever the time comes.
