A royal expert has deciphered a hidden message in the bombshell letter from King Charles regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, following the Sussexes’ return to the UK.
Harry and Meghan made headlines when they announced they were moving back to live in the UK over six years after Megxit in early 2020. Said move triggered a wave of questions over what they would do and how they would be treated compared to other senior members of the Royal Family, particularly King Charles.
Although the incumbent monarch has invited them to Highgrove House, it emerged last week that he had sent a letter confirming that Meghan and Harry were “private citizens”. Furthermore, the letter confirmed that any engagements they undertook would be in that capacity rather than as active members of the Royal Family.
The King’s letter has prompted analysis from experienced royal commentators about what this means for the Sussexes. Former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond has suggested it could be the King sending the pair a message.

Writing in the i newspaper, she suggested: “[Charles’] letter clarifying that they are not part of “The Firm” – the working royals – and should not be regarded as such carried quite a sting.
“Nothing, the Palace insisted, had changed. But, in truth, it had. The King had publicly flexed his muscles and decreed how his younger son should be treated: no bells, whistles, curtseys or any other show of royal flummery.”
Harry and Meghan‘s return to the UK has not only raised questions about how they fit it into the royal fold, but how they fit into British society as a whole with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet attending school in the country.
However, there have been challenges here too as the pair were reportedly pulled out of their current school just two days into the first term of the academic year. Said decision was because of concerns over security during the children’s journey to school.

Earlier this month, the Sussexes’ security was put in the spotlight when RAVEC (Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures) announced they were reviewing the pair’s situation for the first time in six years.
A spokesperson for the family later told Hello! it was a shame given how much they liked the school, but that security had to take priority.
The spokesperson explained: “It’s a real shame, because they absolutely adored the school, the kids and their parents. It was perfect for them in every way and the children really enjoyed their time there.
“They really wanted to make it work, but they had to make a difficult decision based on the fact that the team couldn’t make the school run operationally secure.”
Harry and Meghan’s school run was something recently highlighted by Mike Tapp MP, who told GB News a decision over the duo’s security had to be made promptly “because now that they’re in the country, they will start setting patterns. For example, taking the kids to school and leisure and social activities”.
