The Prince and Princess of Wales live in an idyllic setting within Windsor Great Park, in a property called Forest Lodge. While their royal home offers a private sanctuary to raise their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the location does come with some disruptions.
Later on this month, thousands of people will descend on the area for the Windsor Half Marathon, and the course runs close to the boundary of their private home.
The 13.1-mile course runs entirely through Windsor Great Park, including sections that are usually private roads. Runners have been pre-advised that a specific section of the course is on Crown Estate private property, accessible only on race day, and they should not attempt to train there. The final 1.5 miles have an outstanding view of Windsor Castle beyond the finish line.
The run takes place on Sunday 27 September 2026, so it’s possible the family will be at home during the event.Â
Family changes at home
The Wales family have experienced a big upheaval this month, with Prince George moving out of the family home for the first time as he has now enrolled in boarding school. The 13-year-old is now a member of the prestigious Eton College, giving up his royal residence to live with 55 boys in a shared house.
George will be granted his own room, though, as this is a strong policy of the institution to give each student “privacy”. The official website explains: “From the very beginning, each boy has his own study-bedroom: there are no shared rooms. Boys thus have their own private space and are required to organise themselves and to develop self-discipline in meeting tasks and deadlines.”

While the royal couple are keen to keep their residence under wraps, there are archive photos that reveal the grandeur of the home. Their entranceway contains a “barrel vaulted ceiling,” as quoted from Historic England, and it is shown in an unearthed image taken in 2001, when Forest Lodge underwent a glow-upto the tune of £1.5 million. The changes retained period details, including the original stonework, elaborate plaster cornices and ceiling decoration, marble fireplaces, Venetian windows, and the hallway in question.
Ahead of the family moving in at the end of 2025, the residence had another round of renovations, both inside and out. It is believed that Kate worked with interior designer Ben Pentreath for the transformation. He also worked on both their Kensington Palace apartment and country home, Anmer Hall.
Ben’s impressive portfolio contains an array of celebrity clients like Liv Tyler and Sarah Jessica Parker and his look is “a distinctive and playful style” as quoted on the brand website.
