Kate Middleton and Prince William Won’t Be Making Many Public Appearances for a While
Prince William and Kate Middleton looking every inch the perfect royal couple during a recent public engagement. But for the next few weeks, fans will have to make do without their favourite duo.

It makes perfect sense… but we’re still going to miss them terribly.
After a whirlwind March packed with high-profile appearances, Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly preparing to step back from the spotlight for much of April — and the reason is as wholesome as it gets.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have had an incredibly busy start to 2026. From the glamorous Nigerian state visit and the historic installation of the first female Archbishop of Canterbury, to the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and multiple solo engagements across the UK, their calendars have been non-stop.
But now, with their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — officially on Easter break from school (which runs until April 22), William and Kate are doing what they always do when the kids are home: prioritising precious family time over royal duties.

A palace insider told Daily Mail: “When the children are off school, William and Kate deliberately clear their schedules as much as possible. They want to be present parents first and foremost. It’s a deliberate choice to give George, Charlotte and Louis as normal a childhood as they can, despite the extraordinary circumstances they were born into.”
Family First: The Wales Way
For the Waleses, this isn’t just a nice idea — it’s a deeply held value. Sources say the couple often retreat to their beloved country home, Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where they can escape the pressures of royal life and simply be a normal family.

Sometimes the family of five joins the wider royal clan for the traditional Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. Last year, however, they opted for a low-key celebration at Anmer Hall instead. With Easter Sunday falling on April 5 this year, it remains to be seen whether they’ll make a public appearance or keep things entirely private.
There’s also talk they could jet off on a discreet family holiday, much like last year’s skiing trip to the French Alps. But according to Kate herself, the simplest joys are often the best.
During a 2020 appearance on the “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” podcast, the Princess of Wales revealed what she wants her children to remember most about their childhood:
“Actually, if you really think about that, is it that I’m sitting down trying to do their maths and spelling homework over the weekend? Or is it the fact that we’ve gone out and lit a bonfire and sat around trying to cook sausages that hasn’t worked because it’s too wet?”
She added that her favourite times are when the whole family is “outside in the countryside and we’re all filthy dirty.”

A Break from Tradition That’s Paying Off
William and Kate’s decision to scale back public engagements during school holidays marks something of a modern shift for the monarchy. Previous generations of royals were often more rigid about duties, but the Waleses are determined to strike a healthier balance.
A friend of the couple previously told People magazine: “Those children look pretty happy with life. A lot of it is the stabilising normality Kate brings — and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”
Another palace source described parenting in the royal spotlight as “a massive balancing act”, adding that William and Kate have succeeded where many royal families in the past have struggled: giving their children strong foundations of love, routine and privacy.

We’ll Miss Seeing Them… But We Get It
For royal watchers who have grown used to regular glimpses of the glamorous, dutiful couple, the next few weeks may feel quiet. After March’s packed schedule — including engagements in Leicester, visits to soldiers with the Mercian Regiment, and trips to Cornwall — the sudden slowdown will be noticeable.
Yet few can begrudge them this time. In an institution often criticised for being out of touch, William and Kate’s commitment to being hands-on parents feels refreshingly human.
As one royal commentator put it: “They could be out every single day chasing headlines, but instead they choose to be at home, getting muddy in the garden with their kids. That says everything about the kind of future monarchy they want to build.”
Whether they surface for Easter or remain tucked away at Anmer Hall (or perhaps somewhere even more private), one thing is certain: when William and Kate do return to public duties later in April, they’ll likely look more relaxed and refreshed — ready to serve with the same warmth and professionalism we’ve come to expect.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to content ourselves with replaying old videos and admiring their beautiful family portraits.
After all, even future kings and queens deserve a proper Easter break.
